A friend wanted to invite me to a parade yesterday. I was sad to learn it was a Mardi Gras Parade, rather than a President’s Day Parade. Enjoy this trailer of Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter! In the book, the Civil War was Honest Abe’s attempt to rid the world of vampires. After I finished the book, this was a difficult concept to explain to my political science/historian friends.

One in five Britons admit that they would have sex with a 15 year old or younger.

The good political scientists over at the British Election Study asked a fun series of questions to the British pubic in their CMS surveys (September and October of 2011), basically asking, “Would you be willing to [fill in the blank]?” When you’re looking at the chart, please do keep in mind that these percentages reflect what people are willing to admit they would do and please do keep in mind that the age of consent in Britain is 16 (versus the American age of 18 in many states).

A few of the other findings:

Keep money found on the street: 57%
Drive over the speed limit: 39%
Smoke weed: 35%
Lie in their own interests: 30%
Make up a phony job application: 21%
Have an affair as a married person: 19%

What the Summer Blockbusters taught me about history

“X-Men: First Class” presented to us what really happened during the Cuba Missile Crisis.

“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” showed us that the moon landing accomplished a very different task than what we were led to believe. Buzz Aldrin said so. You kinda have to believe the man who was there, right? RIGHT?

“Captain America: The First Avenger” displayed an insight into World War II that we would have never known (unless you loosely read the comic books).

I don’t know what “Cowboys and Aliens” taught us about history, but it’s there.

We also need to be afraid of yellow (the color), bosses, monkeys, vampires, and the dark. It’s been a productive summer.

From the Google Image Search page, I dragged my profile photo into the search bar to see what a machine thinks of my image. It was a bunch of random men so I added the word, “celebrity,” to my photo and this was better. I was compared to Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep, Orlando Bloom, Simon Cowell, Angelina Jolie, Donald Trump Jr., John Mayer, and my husband’s favorite, Justin Long.

Zombie Paul

Secretly Timid‘s Jon zombified me last week and it’s not pretty. Years ago, I worked the haunted house at Six Flags Over Texas. Every day, I was something different: a werewolf, a lizard man, a vampire, etc. They dressed me as a zombie one day. When I walked casually through the park, people would point which was normal. When I got in character where I would limp a little, drop a shoulder, and let that arm hang, people screamed. Everybody. I never got this kind of reaction before. I found a reflection in a window and it freaked me out so much that I’m still not okay with zombie movies.

After this photo was taken, I got a haircut.
